Time is Running Out to Take Advantage of Big Tax Savings!
As part of the economic recovery efforts underway by the federal government, you may be able to enjoy special bonus depreciation when you purchase new software. The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 provides a “bonus depreciation” allowance that enables you to depreciate an additional 50 percent of the cost of software acquired and placed into service in this tax year (2008).
Remember, you need to start using the software by the end of the year to qualify, so if you’ve been planning to add new functionality to your Sage Timberline Office system, place your order soon. This special “bonus” is only good for 2008, so time is of the essence if you plan to take advantage of this tax savings!
The financial benefits will vary depending on the cost of the product purchased, but the law does not contain a cap or floor on the amount that can be spent. For more information, contact your tax advisor or view the legislation (H.R. 5140) at the Library of Congress Web site.
Whether it be greater efficiencies, better reporting, increased estimating speed and accuracy, or a variety of other issues that new software products can address, history shows that those who invest in the future during slower times are better prepared to take advantage when the rebound occurs.
