Sage Timberline Office News & Tips
Integration with Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2010

As modeling software grows more sophisticated, architects, engineers, and contractors are able to create highly accurate and complete designs. Dubbed Building Information Modeling (BIM), these tools give designers the ability to identify and resolve issues in the model, rather than in the field where it is more expensive and time consuming. Now BIM software can be connected to Sage Timberline Office through Autodesk® Quantity Takeoff. Here is a quick overview.

Autodesk® Quantity Takeoff
Autodesk Quantity Takeoff is a sophisticated cost estimating software that helps cost estimators collect and synchronize multi-format design data and high-quality images, enabling a smoother design-to-cost workflow. It uses property data to automatically or manually measure, count, and price various building objects. Autodesk Quantity Takeoff integrates seamlessly with the Autodesk Revit platform for BIM.

Estimating Integration
The integration enables users to automatically export quantity information from Autodesk Quantity Takeoff (QTO) to Sage Timberline Office Estimating and generate a cost estimate with one click, resulting in faster and more accurate cost estimating. Object quantities and dimensions for items such as doors, windows, and walls are stored within the Autodesk Revit platform for BIM, and extracted using QTO for use within Estimating. You can simply drag and drop to map the model objects and their dimensions to the estimating database for a simple one-time integration setup. The integration adds another layer of efficiency by automating cost estimating from the BIM model with absolute precision, giving the potential to save real dollars on every job.

Complete Workflow
With the integration to Sage Timberline Office Estimating, design and cost information developed in BIM can flow through the entire design and construction process. John Tocci, chairman of the Associated General Contractors BIM Forum, says, "This collaboration will measurably advance the promise of BIM and Integrated Project Delivery to eradicate waste, propel productivity, and restore relationships."
