Microsoft Dynamics NAV News & Tips
The Unofficial NAV Glossary

A

ADO - ActiveX Direct objects. In Dynamics NAV these are used to access external databases (Such as SQL directly from C/SIDE code).

AL - or Application Language was the original name given to the Navision development environment.

Application server - special version of NAV client which has no GUI and can be running as a Windows Service. Used for automatic data processing, collecting and exchange. Commonly named as NAS (Navision Application Server).

Attain - name used for Navision for a short period of time.

Automation - an external program that publishes its procedures so that they can be called from NAV.

Avista - was the name used in North America for Navision. This came about as test groups found that American pronunciation of Navision came out as "No-Vision." They also found that words ending with "A" sounded nicer as well as placing higher on alphabetical lists.
