Microsoft Dynamics NAV Style Sheets
The release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 introduced the option to export data from any form (apart from matrix forms) in Microsoft Dynamics NAV to other programs such as Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel by simply clicking a button. The data is exported as an XML file, and the file is formatted using a style sheet that has been imported into Microsoft Dynamics NAV. The exported XML file may be received by any program that accepts XML imports.
Style Sheets provide you with rich document formatting using familiar tools. In addition, multiple Style Sheets may exist for a form, and Dynamics NAV automatically presents you with a menu to select from.
Seven style sheets are included in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. You can read about these in the Creating XML Style Sheets for Data Export from Microsoft Dynamics NAV white paper (PDF) available on the ICS Support website. However, if you want to create more style sheets or modify an existing style sheet, you need to have knowledge of XML and C/AL programming in order to add the relevant data elements.
To simplify this process, a style sheet tool that does not require programming knowledge has been created. It supports export of data to Microsoft Office Word, and this means that the only skill required to create additional style sheets is some end-user knowledge of Microsoft Office Word.
The Style Sheet Tool version 2.0 for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 enhances the Style Sheet feature in Microsoft Dynamics NAV by allowing you to easily and without programming knowledge create and modify style sheets in Microsoft Office Word 2003 and 2007.
Version 2.0 now comes with these features:
- Compatibility with the RoleTailored Client.
- Microsoft Word-like Date Formatting.
- The ability to default the value of the “Include Captions” field.
- Document properties are brought forward from the Mail Merge document to the Style Sheet document.
Note: You need to have the latest service pack installed in order to use version 2.0 of the Style Sheet Tool with Microsoft Dynamics NAV. It is important to verify that your environment is compatible before installation. We recommend that you contact ICS Support for installation of the Style Sheet tool.
