Visions of the Future of Your ERP

Do you ever wonder about your ERP software application (aka your business management system) and where it’s going in the future? We ponder such things all the time, as well as the surrounding landscape filled with competitive offerings. Occasionally we come across well informed and independent thinkers on the subject. Since many of our clients utilize applications from software publishers such as Microsoft or Sage, we thought it might be interesting to hear what one of the respected independents has to say about the future of ERP applications. Granted, he is speaking of a realm that likely scales beyond what you perceive in the near future, but the insights are intriguing nevertheless.

Thomas Wailgum, writing in CIO, considers Microsoft "The Next Big ERP Innovator," demonstrating in its Dynamics lines a combination of vision and affordability lacking in its competition. He quotes Albert Pang, IDC's director of enterprise applications research, in this summary: "At a time when other technology vendors are struggling to stay afloat, Microsoft is raising the bar. With a more functionally rich product line that is scalable enough to handle the increased workload of a good-size company, Microsoft Dynamics is setting its sights higher."
