An Easy Way to Select a Date in Any Form
Date Chooser Tool for Dynamics NAV
Previously in our Tips ‘n Tricks column, we documented how easily dates can be entered in Dynamics NAV. Here’s a quick recap:
| To Do This… | Enter this… |
| Enter today’s date | T or t |
| Change the day of the current month and year | The two digit date (1-31) |
| Change the month and day of the current year | The four digit month and day (i.e., 0416) |
| Enter the date of a day in the current week | S or Su for Sunday’s date M or Mo for Monday’s date Tu for Tuesday’s date W or We for Wednesday’s date Th for Thursday F or Fr for Friday Sa for Saturday’s date |
| Enter the “workdate” | W |
Now, for those of you who would like a more visual approach to date selection, we’ve found a Date Chooser tool that can be added to any date field in Dynamics NAV. The Date Chooser can be used in any version of Dynamics NAV.
Adding the Date Chooser does require a small programming effort, but a typical form, such as Sales Order Entry, can be done in about 30 minutes.

The tool adds an “ellipsis” icon to the date field…

That opens a calendar when pressed…

That returns the selected (clicked upon) date back to the date field in Dynamics NAV.
