Microsoft Dynamics NAV News & Tips
Just in Time for Christmas... Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2, soon to released, is going to pack a wallop of powerful new capabilities to enhance the business user’s productivity. Following are a few tantalizing teasers to keep you on your best behavior until it’s time to open the presents.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Integration

While Microsoft Dynamics has offered an embedded CRM solution for many years, it will now be possible to seamlessly integrate with Microsoft Dynamics CRM. The integration will be enabled via the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics, and will use Web Services to retrieve data from the two applications and synchronize them. You will have the flexibility to choose between three different integration options with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, including hosted, on-premises, and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. Additionally, with the out-of-the-box mappings built into the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics, you will be able to easily map data fields between Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM. The Connector for Microsoft Dynamics will support integration to Microsoft CRM 4.0 as well as Microsoft CRM 2011.

What are the benefits of CRM integration with your Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 system? Start with significant productivity improvements and enhanced communication both internally among staff and externally with customers and vendors. Redundant data entry can be eliminated, saving time and producing a single consistent view of current communications, transactions, deliverables, resources, and project status associated with your business relationships. CRM has traditionally been thought of as a sales and marketing tool. However, it is also a great tool for providing end-to-end visibility across your organization for the finance and operations departments so they can perform their jobs in a much more effective manner.

Online Payment Service

With this Microsoft-hosted service, you will be able to authorize and accept credit and debit card payments directly from Microsoft Dynamics NAV, i.e. Sales Orders and Invoices. The Online Payment Service works with all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) and leading payment processing services. And of course it’s compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

RoleTailored Client Access for Those on the Go

New technologies, such as Application Virtualization (App-V), are being incorporated to allow remote and roaming users to take advantage of the richness of the RoleTailored Client (RTC) interface. By doing so, it will be much simpler for remote users to connect to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV application, printers, and Microsoft Office without the added complexity and cost of a terminal server or Citrix.

Treemap Analysis and Timeline Visualization

We all know that most people can understand complex sets of data much more easily when they are able to visualize it. Luckily for us, this new release will include several new data visualization extensions that enable users to view and analyze data in new ways that allow them to picture the business and understand it better. In addition, users will be able to quickly spot exceptions and high-priority actionable tasks. There will be tools to suggest actions and strategies, and there will be tools to help users understand the impact of actions before they are committed. With these tools, users will be able to put visualization to work for them across their inventory data, sales orders, production orders, and other manufacturing or production-related data. This tool set will also include histogram-based visual filtering and integration into business logic. Equipping smart people with smart tools can yield extraordinary results.

Filter on Subforms

Have you wanted to find specific information in a stack of sales orders or purchase orders? Well, now you can with the new filtering capability. For example, you can easily find a specific item number by applying the filter across all sales orders, purchase orders, credit memos, etc.
