MAS 90 and MAS 200 Product Retirement Schedule
In last month’s newsletter, we provided you a link to Sage’s latest Product Roadmap (PDF). This Roadmap revealed a wealth of product enhancements and new releases upcoming in the not too distant future. In addition, buried way back on page 32 of the Roadmap document, was information about certain MAS 90 products being retired. In talking to some of you, we have discovered that you may not have seen this particular leg of the journey.
The Roadmap identifies the following products being retired soon:
- Sage MAS 90 and 200 version 3.71 will be retired as of September 30, 2010.
- Sage MAS 200 SQL Edition version 3.7x will be retired June 1, 2011.
- Sage MAS 90 and 200 versions 4.0, 4.05, and 4.1 will be retired September 30, 2011.
Retirement means that Sage discontinues support of the version and will no longer provide updates to form 1099 and the various tax tables.
Note: New 1099 tax laws were passed in this year’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The new law is an expansion of Internal Revenue Code 6041 and will require that 1099s be submitted for essentially all goods purchased after 2011 where the value of the annual purchase exceeds $600, whether the supplier is a corporation or not. This change will affect approximately 40 million businesses of all sizes so it behooves all of us to make sure our 1099 functionality is compliant with current tax law. If you file more than 250 1099 forms, you are required to do so electronically. It’s a safe bet that when this new law goes into effect, most businesses will be over the 250 threshold and forced to file electronically. For a review, look through this quick primer from a CPA firm perspective on the new 1099 tax law and its implications.
