Creating a New Company Code in Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200
When - and why - would you want to create a new company code?
- To create a test company - if you need to test something without damaging your live data or if you need a set of data to train a new employee.
- To create a company to archive your data - for instance, if you don’t want to store multiple years of historical data in your live company, but may need to access it at times. This is often done prior to performing year end processing in your live company.
- To make a quick backup of your live data prior to doing a major process in Sage MAS 90 such as renumbering, merging, or deleting data.
- To retain payroll detail in a historical company that is purged when year end processing is performed in the live company.
How to create a new company code and copy company data in Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 version 4.0 and higher
- Expand Library Master and Main. Double-click Company Maintenance.
- Click the Company Code field lookup, and note which company codes exist. Then click Cancel to return to Company Maintenance.
- Enter a three-character company code that does not already exist.
- Note: Do not use CON or SOA for the company code.
- Enter the company name and any other applicable information. The company code is the only required field.
- To copy existing company data, click the Copy button, and then select the source company which is typically a live company. Note: Confirm that your new company code is in the destination field; your live company should never be the destination company, which would cause your live data to be overwritten. All of the modules activated for the source company are selected by default. Deselect any of the modules that should not be copied, and then click Proceed.
- Click Accept, and close Company Maintenance.
- Make changes to User Maintenance if necessary to access the new company.
- Change to the new company. It will contain an exact mirror image of your source company data.
