What's the Cost of Managing Fixed Assets with a Spreadsheet?
You most likely already have access to Microsoft Excel and are very familiar with using it. So your first thought is that it's probably the easiest tool for beginning to track your fixed assets. And initially it is relatively easy. But as time goes on, and you add more entries to the spreadsheet, it becomes more difficult. And as the difficulty begins to rise, other concerns such as accuracy, ghost assets, tax calculations, and compliance begin to manifest themselves. The cost of maintaining the spreadsheets also rises, as well as the additional costs incurred if they are not maintained in an optimum fashion. Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200 941 Update for HIRE Act
If you are using the Payroll module, an update is now available for your MAS 90 and MAS 200 system that includes a new 941 form and provides the software changes necessary to capture and process the required employee information for you to comply with the new HIRE Act. The new 941 form is required for Q2 filings for all Payroll clients, even if the HIRE Act doesn't apply to you.

Windows 7 Compatibility for Sage MAS 90 and 200
If you and your network people have been anxious to upgrade to Windows 7 but uncertain about the effects on your Sage software, your answer has arrived: the compatibility statement for Windows 7 (PDF) has been released by Sage.
With the installation of a downloadable Hot Fix, Windows 7 can be run with Sage MAS 90 and 200 version 4.30.0.18 (all service updates must be installed) and versions 4.40 and 4.40.0.1. All references to Windows 7 refer to Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions and both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are included.

Let MAS Do the Work So You Don't Have To - A Taste of RMA
One of the nice things about MAS 90 and MAS 200 is the elimination of double or triple entry whenever possible. One example of this is found in the Return Material Authorization module (RMA). If a customer needs to return product that is defective, and the item was purchased from a vendor, then the following transactions happen.
- The RMA is entered and sent to the customer via mail, fax, or email.
- When the item arrives, the RMA Receipt is entered, and optionally printed.
- If the customer wants a replacement or refund, a Credit Memo needs to be created.
- The item needs to be returned to the vendor (or scrapped) and a replacement part ordered.
- You may also need to charge the customer a restocking fee.
Wouldn't it be great if MAS could generate a Credit Memo and a Purchase Order based on the information entered in the RMA? Guess what, it can! RMA is a module that can be added to your MAS arsenal of tools. More on that next time.

Understanding Sales Order Deposits
When you enter a deposit on a Sales Order, you also must record the deposit through Accounts Receivable Cash Receipts Entry. Because the invoice does not exist yet, enter a GL account (your customer deposit account) and during the update, the appropriate cash account (determined by the Bank Code) is debited and the customer deposit account is credited.
When the SO Invoice is updated, the invoice total is reduced by the deposit amount, the customer deposit account is debited and your receivables account is credited.
At any given time, the balance of the customer deposit account provides an important audit trail of the total outstanding deposits (deposits received for sales orders that are not invoiced).
