Managing Those Pesky Fixed Assets
As we begin the 4th quarter of this unforgettable year, we find that many of you are beginning to ask questions and plan for year end (I know some of you are thinking that it can’t come soon enough). In the course of typical year end considerations, and particularly in light of heightened concern about corporate taxes and capital gains with the new White House administration, we have dug out a great set of reference documents for establishing and managing your fixed assets in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Even though these documents were written a few years ago, they are still very relevant to understanding and executing the necessary steps relative to your fixed assets.

Let MAS Do the Work So You Don’t Have To - A Taste of RMA
One of the nice things about MAS 90 and MAS 200 is the elimination of double or triple entry whenever possible. One example of this is found in the Return Material Authorization module (RMA). If a customer needs to return product that is defective, and the item was purchased from a vendor, then the following transactions happen.
- The RMA is entered and sent to the customer via mail, fax, or email.
- When the item arrives, the RMA Receipt is entered, and optionally printed.
- If the customer wants a replacement or refund, a Credit Memo needs to be created.
- The item needs to be returned to the vendor (or scrapped) and a replacement part ordered.
- You may also need to charge the customer a restocking fee.
Wouldn’t it be great if MAS could generate a Credit Memo and a Purchase Order based on the information entered in the RMA? Guess what, it can! RMA is a module that can be added to your MAS arsenal of tools. More on that next time.
